Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has come under fire following recent figures revealing that the government has cancelled fewer than five visas in relation to antisemitic rhetoric or conduct since Hamas’ October 7 terror attack in 2023. Former Labor MP Michael Danby described the policy as "crazy" and argued Australia should not be allowing 3,000 people from a war zone into the country without proper checks. “This is a crazy policy. Since when did Australia arrogate to itself the fact that we're getting 3,000 people from a war zone that are only imperfectly checked?” Mr Danby told Sky News host James Morrow. “Only when Home Affairs refers them to ASIO are they checked. This is ridiculous.”
