Thousands of Swifties descend on Wembley Stadium

Thousands of 'Swifties' descended on Wembley Stadium in London on Thursday (August 15) excited to see Taylor Swift back on stage following her canceled dates in Vienna. ''Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour'' was pulled last week when an Islamic State-inspired attack was foiled. Fans in the British capital were cautious about coming but happy to the there and see the mega star. ''This is the first time I'm seeing Taylor Swift. And it's amazing,'' said student Stesty Nadya. While fellow student Salsha Radiandina said she did research and was happy with the increased security, ''because of that, I feel safe,'' she said. While British police have said there was nothing to indicate the events in Vienna would impact the shows at Wembley, security has been stepped up at the stadium. Tay-gating, the practice of gathering outside a Swift show without a ticket, like thousands did in Munich earlier in the summer, will not be allowed, as authorities try to reduce harder-to-control vulnerabilities outside the venue. Security staff were checking tickets before fans could start queuing to enter the stadium. Fans also entered through metal detectors and were only allowed to bring one small bag. Swift has not commented publicly on the incident in Vienna, but in the past, she said her biggest fear was the risk to her fans following the Manchester Arena bombing and the Las Vegas concert shooting in 2017. Fans from around the world arriving in Wembley, dressed in sequins and cowboy hats and many had their forearms covered in friendship bracelets ready to swap with other Swifties. Swift's show is the first of five dates in London before Swift and her show return to America.
