WION

The discovery of a rapidly expanding acidic zone, known as the carbonate compensation depth, 3,000 feet below the ocean surface. This zone dissolves calcium carbonate, which marine animals use to create shells. Researchers link this expansion to increased CO2 levels, driving ocean acidification and lowering PH. The zone has risen by 100 meters since pre-industrial times and could rise further, impacting millions of square kilometers of the ocean floor. Island nations like Bermuda are expected to be hit hardest, with significant portions of their seabed becoming unstable. #acid #ocean About Channel: WION The World is One News examines global issues with in-depth analysis.
