Time to rethink disaster management
A suggestion that now is the opportune time to rethink disaster management in Barbados. It has come from the former Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency or CDEMA, Jeremy Collymore. Mr. Collymore made the comment during the 2024 Christmas Gala and Staff Awards for the Department of Emergency Management. He believes the Department is deserving of more resources, as the country experiences more frequent extreme weather events. Antoinette Clarke, Wesley Nicholas and Audine Shorey-Lorde received awards for giving 15 or more years of service to the DEM. Clive Lorde, Captain Robert Harewood, Judy Thomas and Kerry Hinds were also recognised for providing outstanding leadership to the organisation. Ms. Hinds, who is the current Director, thanked staff past and present for their continued support.
