Timing of Chinese Ambassador’s speech ‘hard to overlook’ days after Taiwan election

The timing of the Chinese Ambassador to Australia Xiao Qian’s rare speech is “hard to overlook”, says Sky News political reporter Cameron Reddin. China’s Ambassador to Australia addressed a press conference at the Chinese Embassy in Canberra on Wednesday. “The timing of this speech is quite hard to overlook,” Mr Reddin told Sky News Australia contributor Steve Price. “Just four days after Taiwan’s presidential election. “While China and the ambassador are willing to compromise on a whole range of different issues … the issue of Taiwan is not one that China is willing to compromise on.” Beijing continues to recognise self-governed Taiwan as a breakaway province that will eventually be part of China, and have not ruled out the use of force to achieve their aim.
