The event was being held in China for the first time. The competition attracted 53 top athletes from 10 countries, including China, the U.S., the UK, Russia and Switzerland, who sailed across the frozen surface of the Bohai Sea. The sport is a considerably different challenge from typical yacht sailing on water, with the highest speed of these ice yachts exceeding 150 kilometers per hour as they glide on ice.
