Tropical Depression 18 heads toward Gulf of Mexico
FOX 13 meteorologists are tracking Tropical Depression 18, which formed Monday morning. It is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm and eventually a hurricane. It is heading north at 9 miles an hour and is expected to become a hurricane as it enters the Gulf of Mexico. Once it enters the Gulf, FOX 13 Meteorologist Jim Weber says conditions aren’t as conducive to continue development or sustain hurricane status because it will encounter cooler water and drier air. Computer models have it weakening before making landfall along the Gulf Coast. It is still too early to tell where it will make landfall.
