Trudeau calls out Poilievre for refusing security clearance amid "threats to Canada"
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, once again, has called out Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre for refusing to acquire necessary security clearance to be briefed on classified matters related to foreign affairs in Canada. During question period in the House of Commons on Tuesday, Trudeau condemned recent violence at a Hindu temple in Brampton. Ignoring the topic, Poilievre criticized Trudeau on Canada’s current per capita GDP with the U.S. In his response, Trudeau criticized Poilievre, saying, “Not only is he not stepping forward to talk about how all Canadians must stand together… but he even refuses to take the issue seriously enough to get the security clearance necessary to be briefed on threats to Canada.” Avoiding Trudeau’s question, the Conservative leader deflected, asking Trudeau to “take ownership for the divisions he’s caused and the violence that has resulted.” Previously, Poilievre has argued that accepting the top-secret briefings would prevent him from asking questions about foreign interference in the House of Commons.
