Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron are expected to jointly speak with media in Montreal on Thursday, as Macron visits Canada after a planned trip in July was cancelled amid political turmoil in France. Trudeau welcomed Macron to Ottawa the day before, where they discussed collaboration on geopolitical issues including Russia's war in Ukraine, misinformation and artificial intelligence. The two have been compared frequently since Macron was elected in France in 2017, two years after Trudeau took power in Canada. They also share current political circumstances as progressive politicians who have become deeply unpopular with voters. Both leaders were in New York City earlier this week for the United Nations General Assembly and will be together again next week in France at the Francophonie leaders’ summit.
