Trudeau says "no question" Trump plans to follow through on tariff threat
During a press conference in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed reporters about U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s recent threats to impose a 25 per cent tariff on goods coming in Canada and Mexico when he reclaims the Oval Office. “One of the things that is really important to understand is that, Donald Trump, when he makes statements like that, he plans on carrying them out,” Trudeau said. “There's no question about it,” he added. With an already weak dollar and economists saying Canadians should expect an increase in costs from ripple effects if those tariffs do kick into place, concerns are rising among citizens and politicians, but the Liberal government is maintaining positivity that a “Team Canada approach” will work in their favour. “We're going to work together to meet some of the concerns and respond to some of the issues, but ultimately, it is through lots of constructive, real conversations with President Trump that will keep us moving forward on the right track for all Canadians,” Trudeau said.
