Trump placing ‘political capital’ in vowing swift end to Russia-Ukraine conflict

Defence Studies Centre senior fellow Matthew Sussex says Russia will want to “grab as much land as possible” in Ukraine before peace talks with the incoming Trump administration. The Biden administration is working to increase the delivery of weapons to Ukraine in its final days in office. “When he takes office, then Moscow will say, okay well what is Trump going to bring to the table to give us what we want?” Mr Sussex told Sky News Australia. “Putin would probably feel that he is in a relatively strong position, given his relationship with Trump, and the fact that Trump has put a bit of political capital into saying that he can end this conflict pretty swiftly.”
