Trump tariffs: Trudeau accuses Poilievre of amplifying "erroneous narratives" in border ro
U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s threat of a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian goods entering the United States continued to dominate discussion at Tuesday’s session of question period in the House of Commons. In response to Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre's criticism, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Poilievre needs to "reflect carefully on whether he really wants to amplify the erroneous narratives that the Americans are putting forward." "For example, our border, when less than one per cent of migrants coming into the United States irregularly come from Canada, where 0.2 per cent of fentanyl coming into the United States comes from Canada," said Trudeau, adding these are things the two countries can work together on. Meanwhile, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh rose and stated that "the last Conservative government fired 1,100 border officers that allowed illegal guns and drugs to flow freely into our country." Trudeau agreed with Singh saying "Conservative cuts hurt our border security."
