The newly elected Prime Minister of Tuvalu says he wants to rewrite his country’s landmark climate migration deal with Australia. The agreement would see up to 28 Tuvaluans per year migrating to Australia to escape rising seas. One of the lowest-lying countries on earth, Tuvalu could be entirely underwater by the end of the century. In exchange, the government will be able to vet Tuvalu’s security arrangements, giving Australia a powerful voice in the pacific to counter China. The Australian government says it stands committed to the deal.
