Typhoon Marce brings violent wind, rain to northern Philippines
Typhoon Marce lashed the northern Philippines, with violent winds and rain damaging houses and toppling power lines, local authorities said on Friday. Footage captured by an eyewitness showed the violent winds lashing the province of Cagayan on Thursday. Reuters was able to confirm the location by the bridge, road layout, trees and terrain seen in the videos which matched file and satellite imagery of the area. The date was verified by the reports of typhoon winds and rain in the area. Yinxing, with winds up to 175k ph and 240 kph gusts, made landfall in the northern tip of Cagayan Province on Thursday. At least 17,000 people were evacuated to temporary shelters, while government agencies have stockpiled supplies and readied emergency response for the affected residents. Around 20 storms strike the Philippines each year on average, bringing heavy rains, strong winds, and deadly landslides. (Production: Milan Pavicic, Peter Blaza, Jay Ereno, Lion Schellerer)
