Uganda celebrates Independence Day with cycling victories at Africa Road Championships

Ugandan pair of Charles Kagimu and Paul Lomuria celebrated the country’s Independence Day on the podium high following their victory in the Elite and under 23 categories respectively on day one of the Confederation of Africa Cycling, Africa Road Cycling Championships in Eldoret, Kenya. The Uganda national flag was raised back to back in both the elite men and the under-23 men at the time trial event, the last shows of day one of the championships. Fresh from participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Kagimu won the elite men's title after subbing off 33.8km in the last race of the day before his counterpart Lomuria returned ahead of teammate Lawrence Lorot in a 1-2 podium finish in the men’s under 23 individual time trial category.
