Ugandan Olympic athlete who died after her ex-boyfriend set her on fire gets military funeral

Ugandan Olympic runner Rebecca Cheptegei, who died after allegedly being doused in petrol and set alight by her ex-boyfriend, was buried on Saturday with full military honours. In a poignant moment, Joseph Cheptegei expressed his love for his daughter, saying in Swahili, “Rebecca was my second born child. I love her so much. She was a polite girl.” Kenyan politician Kipchuma Murkomen pointed out the collective failure to address Rebecca’s domestic issues by both the government and community.
