Ugandan salt miners risk their health for meagre pay at Lake Katwe

Thousands of informal salt miners in western Uganda are struggling to make ends meet. They work in salty water for long periods, without protective clothing, increasing their risk of exposure to waterborne diseases. Lake Katwe is Uganda’s largest salt mine and an important resource for the growing industry. But the labour comes at a high cost. Al Jazeera’s Catherine Soi reports from Lake Katwe in western Uganda.
