UK election: Brits react to Labour Party, Keir Starmer's landslide victory
The results of Britain's general election were a hot talking point among morning commuters, shoppers and traders at London's Southall Market on Friday, with Brits reacting to Keir Starmer's electoral victory. Starmer's Labour Party won a huge majority in Thursday's parliamentary election, defeating Rishi Sunak's Conservatives and ending their 14 years of rule. "I’m not really a fan of Labour. I think, their policies are sort of backwards. I voted Reform," an 18-year-old first-time voter said. Meanwhile, another voter who was happy about the election result said, " I just think it's what the country needs." Plus, people in the constituency won by populist Reform U.K. leader Nigel Farage on Friday welcomed his election win and said they hoped he would live up to his promises. Starmer, a 61-year-old former human rights lawyer, took over as prime minister around midday on Friday. Sunak, the youngest leader in modern British history, stepped into the role of prime minister in the autumn of 2022.
