A British woman who was one of thousands of victims of a so-called “grooming gang” is sharing her story, as the issue has come back in the spotlight due to the attention of tech mogul Elon Musk. The woman, who is now on her 30s, spoke on the condition of anonymity to Reuters, about what she experienced, saying it started when she was 14 or 15-years-old. She said at one point she was held for days against her will. “I couldn’t move out of bed. I don’t know what they’d given me, but I couldn’t move. And there was man after man coming in and every single one of them was different," she said. Nine men were convicted of abusing the victim, Reuters reported. The “grooming gang” scandal refers to a series of child sex abuse cases from a decade ago where gangs of men sexually exploited vulnerable young girls in the U.K. Musk has accused British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who headed Britain’s prosecution service between 2008 and 2013, of enabling the gangs. Starmer has defended his record on prosecuting child abusers. On Wednesday, MPs voted against a Conservative Party amendment aimed at prompting a national inquiry on the topic.
