Ukraine requests urgent thermal coal shipment from Australia

Ukraine is requesting an urgent shipment of Australian thermal coal, as it faces the threat of a major blackout. Kyiv has asked the Albanese government to match a previous shipment of almost 80,000 tonnes of coal in 2022. Matching the shipment from 2022 would cost taxpayers $30 million. Ukraine says the delivery is crucial, as Russia consistently targets Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure. Due to Russia’s constant attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, the country's oil, coal and heating facilities are constantly going down.
