Unnatural death investigation launched

The Barbados Police Service has launched an unnatural death investigation after two men were shot dead early this morning in St. Philip. Police in a statement say the incident took place about 12:20 a.m. at a yam field situated at Three Houses Plantation. They say the owner of the field, which was under lease from the plantation, was reportedly patrolling after having previous issues of theft from the said yam field. He came across two men harvesting his crops and confronted them. An altercation occurred resulting in the two unknown men being shot. Both died at the scene. Meanwhile, Barbadians have been reacting to news of the deaths of the alleged crop thieves. CBC News spoke with a farmer, Cyprian Blades. Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture, Barney Callender, is urging people to desist from engaging in praedial larceny.
