‘Unusually high turn-out’: Voter’s ‘block’ Far-right party in French election

Former high commissioner to the United Kingdom George Brandis says France’s far-let party coming out on top in the second round of the country's parliamentary elections was “a surprise”. “The reason, as far as I can tell … is that there was a very high turnout, an unusually high turnout for a French election of people who wanted to block Marine La Pen’s National rally,” he told Sky News Australia. “They gathered around a new political party of the left … in alignment with President Macron’s centre-left party Ensemble”.
