Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland and Minister of Public Safety Dominic LeBlanc recapped the conversations held between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Canada’s premiers on Wednesday, after an urgent meeting on U.S.-Canada relations was called ahead of the incoming Donald Trump administration. “Of course the United States has the absolute right to control who enters the United States, just as Canada has the absolute right to control who enters Canada,” Freeland said in her remarks. “We agreed that illegal drugs — especially opioids — are a scourge for both of our countries and that we need to continue to work hard to ensure our border is safe and secure.” Freeland added that she didn’t want to minimize the “gravity of the challenge” that now faces the country, but that it was important for Canadians to have confidence and recognize the strengths of the country. “Certainly we depend on the United States — but the United States also depends on us,” she said. Saying that it was important “not to squabble” amongst one another, Freeland highlighted the “strong agreement” from the different parties represented in the call. Referencing a premier who Freeland did not name, she shared anecdotally that the individual chuckled and expressed how he couldn’t believe he “just agreed with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on so many things.” For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/10890542/trump-tariff-trudeau-premiers-meeting Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ Follow Global News on X HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB #GlobalNews #Canada #US
