US Congress certifies Donald Trump’s victory in 2024 presidential election
The United States Congress has certified Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election. His defeated opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris oversaw proceedings and formally declared him the winner. Trump received 312 electoral college votes and Harris 226. Security was tight around the Capitol. In 2021, supporters of Donald Trump stormed the Capitol in a bid to disrupt the process, after he lost that year's election to Joe Biden. Trump's inauguration will take place in Washington on January 20. Al Jazeera’s White House Correspondent Kimberly Halkett reports.
