US Congress rejects Trump's spending bill amid looming government shut down

A day before a potential US government shut down, dozens of Republicans have rejected a a spending bill supported by Donald Trump. Republicans will attempt to pass an alternate plan today, but it is unclear whether Democrats in the House will support it. US House Speaker Mike Johnson returned to Capitol Hill optimistic that Congress could still pull together a budget deal.
