US to deploy powerful anti-missile system and 100 troops to Israel

In a rare move, the US will send troops to Israel to strengthen its anti-missile defence system. Around 100 soldiers will be deployed in what the Pentagon says reinforces its “ironclad” commitment to the defence of Israel. America announced it authorised the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery – the most powerful anti-missile weapon used by the US military – to be sent to Israel to help bolster its air defence. THAAD can destroy ballistic missiles launched from as close as 93 miles away.
