US vows “all necessary actions” after 3 troops killed in drone strike, Iran denies involvement

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin vowed on Monday that the U.S. will take “all necessary actions” to defend its troops after three American troops were killed and dozens were injured Sunday in a drone strike in northeast Jordan near the Syrian border. President Joe Biden blamed Iran-backed militias for the first U.S. fatalities after months of strikes by the groups against American forces across the Middle East amid the Israel-Hamas conflict. In response to allegations that Iran was directly involved in the fatal strikes on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani claimed the accusations were “baseless” and that “resistance groups in the region do not take orders from” Iran.
