Vance vs Walz: heated debate on censorship, gun violence, and January 6 | ABS-CBN News
Threats to democracy and gun violence took center stage during the vice presidential debate between Republican JD Vance and his Democratic counterpart, Tim Walz on Tuesday. The debate is likely the final one of the 2024 presidential campaign, potentially giving it some additional weight ahead of the Nov. 5 election. Each candidate pointed fingers when addressing the January 6 attack on the Capitol with Walz at one point asking point blank if Vance believed former president Donald Trump had lost the 2020 election. Vance sidestepped by questioning Kamala Harris's actions regarding free speech during the COVID-19 pandemic prompting the Minnesota governor to says Vance's reply was a "damning non-answer." On the topic of gun violence, Vance advocated for increased security measures in schools, such as stronger doors and more resource officers, while Walz questioned the implications of turning schools into "forts". Kamala Harris was widely viewed as the winner of her sole debate with Donald Trump on Sept. 10 in Philadelphia, which was watched by an estimated 67 million people.
