उत्तर प्रदेश की पीलीभीत लोकसभा सीट से बीजेपी ने वरुण गांधी का टिकट काटते हुए जितिन प्रसाद को अपना उम्मीदवार बनाया है. इसके बाद कयास लगाए जा रहे थे कि वरुण गांधी निर्दलीय ही चुनाव लड़ेगें. यह भी कहा जा रहा था कि वो इसको लेकर कांग्रेस में शामिल हो सकते हैं. हालांकि इसको लेकर स्थिति साफ हो गई है. वरुण गांधी चुनाव नहीं लड़ेंगे. वरुण की तरफ से उनके निजी सचिव ने बयान जारी किया है. पीलीभीत से टिकट कटने के बाद वरुण को लेकर काफी चर्चा थी की वो किसी पार्टी अथवा निर्दलीय के तौर पर चुनाव लड़ सकते है, लेकिन वरुण गांधी की तरफ से साफ कर दिया गया है वो अब चुनाव नहीं लड़ेंगे और सुल्तानपुर में अपनी मां और बीजेपी प्रत्याशी मेनका गांधी के लिए चुनाव प्रचार करेंगे.
