Victorian taxpayers have been charged an extra $4.5 billion in the past 12 months to help drive down the state’s COVID debt. Figures tabled in Parliament yesterday reveal net debt fell to $133 billion - better than what was forecast in the state budget in May. The levy was introduced to pay down the state’s mammoth pandemic bill, which includes increased land tax and payroll tax.
