Virtual reality (VR) technologies have helped a nursing school in Singapore develop their students' clinical skills, while reducing the use of disposable procedure sets by about 50 per cent. The virtual simulation tools used by the Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies supplement traditional in-person learning. Introduced gradually during the COVID-19 pandemic, the school now plans to integrate generative AI into its virtual simulations next year. Dr Rosalind Siah, Senior Lecturer and Program Director (Clinical) at NUS' Alice Lee Centre for Nursing Studies, weighs in on the use of VR in training nurses. She shares how effective the simulations are in recreating clinical settings and patients, the benefits and challenges of incorporating such tech into nursing training, using the tech to train existing healthcare workers, and future plans to incorporate generative AI into nursing simulations.
