WANDERERS ARE CRICKET UGT20 CHAMPIONS

Cricket - Wanderers cricket club defeated Rounders cricket club by 3 runs in Uganda Cricket Association Men’s UGT20 league final to claim this year’s title and end an 11-year trophy drought. The dramatic cliffhanger league final was played last evening at the Lugogo cricket Oval. Wanderers and Rounders played out a low-scoring thriller at the Lugogo Cricket Oval last evening in the 2024 UCA Men’s UGT20 League final. Wanderers won the toss and elected to bat first with players Didier Ndikwibimana (27 runs) scoring the most with Abu Seguya (19 runs), Rounders’ slow bowlers David Mwesigwa (3 wickets), Narinder Singh (3 wickets) and Richard Sohera (2 wickets) were the biggest stoppers for Wanderers limiting them combined to 99 all out in the first innings. In the second innings, Rounders failed to build meaningful partnerships and kept losing wickets in succession which derailed their run chase; with only the capt Narinder Singh (14 runs) and Sohera Richard (14 runs) lasting longer on the crease. Wanderers’ bowlers Martin Akayezu (5 wickets) and Arthur Magwa (3 wickets) were the biggest trouble for Rounders piling up the pressure to pick up the result that gave the side their first title in 11 years. Wanderers won by 3 runs with a final score of Wanderers 99 runs all out Rounders 96 runs all out. It was a good season for Wanderers who finished second in the men’s 50-Over League and victory in the T20 League crowns a nearly perfect season for them. Rounders missed out on qualification to the top flight but in the end had a great season despite falling short of the T20 title.
