Warming ocean waters causing Hurricane Milton to intensify: US scientist
Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida's west coast on Wednesday (Oct 9), spawning tornados and lashing the region with rain as it threatened the Tampa Bay area. In a state already battered by Hurricane Helene two weeks ago, as many as 2 million people were ordered to evacuate. Authorities have warned Milton could be one of the most destructive hurricanes on record. Dr Benjamin Jaimes de la Cruz, an associate scientist at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science, tells CNA’s Asia Now how Florida prepared for the storm and what contributed to its destructive nature.
