Thick clouds of smoke can be seen rising from the Lebanese capital after multiple explosions were heard, according to witnesses from Reuters news agency. The Israeli military has said it targeted Hezbollah's central headquarters in Beirut's southern suburbs. Hezbollah's al Manar television reported four buildings were destroyed in the strikes, with many casualties, which marked a major escalation of Israel's conflict with the Iran-backed militants.
