Iran launched missiles toward Israel, Israel's Defense Forces said in a short statement Tuesday as it urged Israelis to enter bomb shelters. The move was the latest escalation in a weeks-long skirmish between Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel, and comes days before the the one-year anniversary of Hamas' Oct. 7 attacks on southern Israel. It also comes just as the Jewish high holiday Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset on Wednesday. Few other details were immediately available. Sirens were sounding across Israel. The IDF said it was working to intercept the missiles.
