The New Franco-Chinese Institute, inaugurated in 2014 following Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the French city of Lyon, enjoys historical ties with China dating back to the 17th century. Alain Labat, the vice president of the institute, noted that the city's historical links with China are unique in Europe. As the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism unfolds this year, a CGTN stringer visited the Saint Marc choir in Lyon. The choir, accustomed to performing in China, has four tours planned in 2024, with nearly 40 concerts scheduled. "Diplomatic relations serve as a means for us to facilitate our encounters and travels to China," said Nicolas Porte, the director of the choir.
