We Ting Community Caravan Finale
The We Ting Community Caravan hosted by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Sport and Community Development provided a safe space for members of the public of all ages to share their views on gender roles, social unity, and governance. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, David Roberts, expressed how pleased he was with the level of participation achieved across communities. "Of course, the Minister of Sport and Community Development, the Honourable Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, is in full support and endorses this partnership. Of course, you know she is very, very passionate about communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago and, most importantly, sustainable community development." Project Assistant at the United Nations International Organization for Migration, Keren Permel, said the turnout was fantastic and she believes the public benefitted greatly. "People are excited to learn more because I think a lot of them have never interacted with UN workers and so on. Don't have any idea what our agencies do, so it's nice to have so many of my colleagues from the different agencies out here as well as my own colleague from my organisation." According to National Information Officer at the UN's Information Centre for the Caribbean Area, Amanda Lawrence, this event was beneficial as members of the public showed interest in the various functions of the UN. "We are finding that many members of the public understand but other members of the public have some misconceptions, so we've been trying to correct those misconceptions and provide the explanations needed." The We Ting Community Caravan previously visited Siparia, Arima, Diego Martin, Chaguanas, and Tobago, before concluding in Port of Spain on Saturday December 7th.
