“We were afraid.” That’s what Lyle Menendez said in his court testimony when asked why he and his brother killed their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in August 1989. After being sentenced to life without the possibility of parole in 1996, the two brothers are now “cautiously optimistic” to be out on parole with LA District Attorney George Gascón’s recommendation for their resentencing.
