Executive Council of Australian Jewry Co-Chief Executive Peter Wertheim discusses the implications of the Israel and Hezbollah ceasefire agreement that has taken effect in Lebanon. The agreement stipulates an initial 60-day halt to the fighting that has claimed thousands of Lebanese lives and displaced over a million people. Mr Wertheim noted that the ceasefire is beneficial for both Israel and Lebanon, as Hezbollah has lost support in Lebanon due to economic issues. “It is good news for the Lebanese as well as for the Israelis. But make no mistake, Hezbollah is down but not out. They will use whatever time is available to them once they withdraw, to regroup, to rearm,” he told Sky News host Caleb Bond.
