What is behind femicide among Kapchorwa athletes?
Last month, Uganda's representative at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, Rebecca Cheptegei, succumbed to her injuries after being doused in petrol and set ablaze by her estranged boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema. The incident arose from a domestic dispute the two had over property and wealth amassed by Cheptegei through her exploits on the track. Cheptegei repeatedly reported her dire situation to the police and the elders. But no action was taken. Among the Kalenjin ethnic group, no matter how high a woman rises, she must submit to her husband. This includes handing over any financial and property wealth she amasses. Felix Manyindo traveled to the Sebei sub-region, in Eastern Uganda, to explore the cultural norms and social behaviors that hinder women in general, and female athletes in particular, from attaining their potential. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda
