Speaking during a radio interview on Saturday, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus recounted his near-death experience on Thursday when an Israeli airstrike hit a Yemeni airport, where he was at the time. "I was not sure I could survive, because it was so close, a few meters from where we were. We didn't know actually what would happen, but after four explosions, I think it stopped,” the WHO chief said. “To be honest, a slight deviation could have resulted in a direct hit,” he added. Israel’s strike on Sanaa International Airport came in a series of attacks on the Iran-aligned Houthi rebel movement. In what they have described as acts of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, Houthis repeatedly fired drones and missiles towards Israel, triggering the retaliation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the attack was his military “just getting started.” At least three people died at the airport, with an additional three being killed in Hodeidah – with 40 others injured in Israel’s latest onslaught – according to a Houthi-controlled news agency.
