Lebanon is a country divided along religious lines, with citizens evenly split between identifying as Christian, Sunni Muslim, and Shia Muslim. However not all Shias support Hezbollah. Hezbollah was founded as a Shiite militant group in 1982, which was done in response to clashes between Israel and Palestinian Liberation Organization forces operating there.
