Will a cap on international students fix Canada's housing crisis?
Faced with scrutiny over sky-high housing prices, Canada’s federal government announced a cap on the number of international students coming into the country. On Monday, Immigration Minister Marc Miller said the 2024 cap is expected to result in approximately 364,000 approved study permits – a decrease of 35 per cent from 2023. But some experts aren’t convinced this move by the federal government will make an impact, instead calling it “largely performative.” Uday Rana takes a closer look at the cap and whether it will help drive housing prices down.
