Situated along the Yellow Sea coast, it serves as a crucial stopover on the East Asia-Australasia bird migration route—one of the nine major bird migration pathways worldwide. Every year, from November to March, 400 to 600 wild red-crowned cranes migrate to the reserve to play, feed, and fly freely in its pristine environment. Currently, over 100 cranes have arrived, and as temperatures continue to drop, more are expected to join.
