Another 100,000 Singapore households will benefit from a programme that can lower the risk of dengue by 75%. Project Wolbachia will be rolled out to five more residential areas in Hougang, Serangoon and Jurong by next March. Male Aedes mosquitoes that carry the Wolbachia bacteria and do not bite are released into the air to mate with female mosquitoes, which prevents eggs from hatching. This will bring the total number of households covered to 580,000.
