Three years after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan a new law has been passed compelling women to cover their face and body completely when leaving their homes. The latest restrictions also state that women’s voices must no longer be heard in public. They are the latest in a series of draconian restrictions imposed on women by the country’s Taliban rulers. There’s been international outrage. The US and EU are among those condemning the new laws but they have little influence over Afghanistan’s religious leaders.
