Yahya Sinwar dead: Israel says DNA confirms Hamas leader’s death in Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has killed Yahya Sinwar, the man considered to be the architect of the Oct. 7 attacks. Born in a Gaza refugee camp, his family was among the more than 700,000 Palestinians displaced in the 1948 war that resulted in Israel’s independence. He was chosen as Hamas’s top leader in July after his predecessor, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated in an apparent Israeli strike on the Iranian capital. Sinwar spent more than two decades in Israeli prisons and Israel has wanted him dead for years. But as Nathaniel Dove reports, this does not mean the war in Gaza is over.
