Yemen’s Houthis pledge to escalate military operations in response to deadly Israeli strikes

Yemen’s Houthis on Monday pledged to escalate military operations against Israel in response to deadly attacks, a day after an Israeli strike against Houthi targets killed five people and injured 57 according to the group’s spokesperson. On Sunday, Israel carried out airstrikes on dozens of Hezbollah targets and against the Iran-aligned Houthi militia in Yemen. The Pentagon said Monday that Israel notified but did not coordinate with the U.S. prior to the strikes in Yemen. Speaking later, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Israel “has the right to defend itself” against Iran-backed groups like Hezbollah and the Houthis. She also reiterated the call for a ceasefire between Israel and such groups.
