Zelenskyy details 1st conservation with Carney since he became PM, talks sanctions against Russia
Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed Sunday that he “just” spoke with Canada’s newly sworn-in Prime Minister Mark Carney for the first time, detailing their conversation. Zelenskyy said the two discussed “sanctions against Russia,” particularly against its tanker fleet, banks and “state revenue-generation schemes.” The Ukrainian leader says they also spoke on the results of a G7 foreign ministers meeting. On his first full day as PM on Saturday, Carney met with his international counterparts for a ‘Coalition of the Willing’ meeting – organized by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer – to discuss plans for a peacekeeping force amid the Russia-Ukraine war. Though President Donald Trump was not included in the meeting, he says he is working to get Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept a U.S.-brokered ceasefire deal with Zelenskyy. Ukraine has already approved the proposal.
