Immediate reduction of water rates for registered farmers

With immediate effect Government will facilitate funding by directing the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation to access the Agriculture Development Fund to cover the cost of twenty climate resilient vertical farms. Minister in the Ministry of Finance Ryan Straughn, who was delivering the Budgetary Proposals and Financial Statement, announced an immediate reduction of water rates for registered farmers to one dollar per cubic metre, which will take effect from April 1 2025. And Government is again directing the Barbados agricultural development and marketing corporation to request a further five million dollars from the agriculture development fund to cover the cost of twenty climate smart broiler tunnels in lease to own contracts to be repaid over seven years.
